Undergraduate English language requirements
All Monash applicants must satisfy the minimum English language requirements of the university
Please note: some undergraduate and postgraduate courses have higher TOEFL, IELTS, Pearson Test of English (Academic) or Cambridge English score requirements therefore the below minimum scores do not apply for those with a higher English requirement.

You can meet these requirements in one of the following ways:
Note: for applicants whose secondary schooling was not entirely in English, any result or qualification listed below must have been gained or completed within the two years prior to commencement of the course in which enrolment is sought.
| VCE/Year 12/Final year high school qualification |
You have achieved a satisfactory level of performance in an English subject at Year 12 or equivalent level. For VCE students, this means a study score of at least 25 in units 3 and 4 in any VCE English subject. From Semester 1, 2009 the English as a Second Language (ESL) minimum score requirement will be five points higher than VCE English subjects ie, at least 30 in ESL.

| Tertiary/Post-secondary school studies |
You have studied in an institution where English is the language of instruction and assessment for the entire institution and have satisfactorily completed the equivalent of one year full-time (two standard full-time semesters) of either:
- a university undergraduate award program, or
- a TAFE or VET diploma program, or
- a program that has been assessed as being taught at an equivalent level to Monash University undergraduate study
Alternatively you have studied in an institution where English is the language of instruction and assessment for the entire institution and have satisfactorily completed the equivalent of one full-time year (two standard full-time semesters) of postgraduate study.
Documentary evidence in the form of a letter or transcript is required from the institution at which the study was undertaken. |
| English language proficiency tests |
Undertaken within 24 months prior to your study commencement date and have achieved the following results:
IELTS (International English Language Testing System - Academic) Minimum overall test score required is 6.5. The individual band scores required: Reading 6.0 Listening 6.0 Writing 6.0 Speaking 6.0.
TOEFL (American Test of English as a Foreign Language). Minimum test scores required are: Paper-based test - 550 with a Test of Written English (TWE) score of at least 4.5 Internet-based - 79 overall, minimum scores as follows: Writing: 21, Listening: 12, Reading:13, Speaking 18.
Pearson Test of English (Academic) Minimum test scores required are: Achievement of a minimum overall score of 58 with no PTE communicative skills score below 50.
Cambridge English Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) Minimum test score required: A grade of 'A' Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English Minimum test score required: A grade of 'C'
You must include the original IELTS, TOEFL, Pearson Test of English (Academic) or Cambridge English test report with your application.

| Higher education units |
You have passed at least two units in an English medium higher education institution, of which at least one unit is an English rich unit. |
| Non-award Courses |
All of your secondary schooling was in English and you have successfully completed a Monash University faculty certificate, faculty diploma, executive certificate or executive diploma comprising at least 24 credit points of postgraduate level units. |

You have successfully completed the Monash University English Language Bridging Program, or equivalent programs, at the appropriate level. For further information visit MUELC. |
