The Centre for Higher
Education Quality (CHEQ), Monash University is pleased to announce
the sixth Evaluation Forum to be held in Melbourne from 2-3 October 2008.
The forum has the overall theme 'Evidence based Decision Making:
Scholarship and Practice'. The theme aims to reflect how
evaluation outcomes are utilised in universities to make change.
The target audiences for the Forum are primarily, but not
exclusively those involved in evaluations in the higher education
sector. This is an
extraordinary opportunity to network with peers and discover the
different ways in which similar evaluations problems are solved in
our Asia Pacific region.
The Forum
will feature a keynote speaker from Canada, Professor Harry G. Murray who is
Professor Emeritus in the Department of Psychology, University of
Western Ontario, London, Canada. He has conducted research over the
past 30 years on teacher characteristics that contribute to
effectiveness in university teaching, including personality traits
and classroom teaching behaviors; and on methods of evaluating and
improving university teaching, including summative and formative
student instructional ratings.
Pre-Forum Workshops (New!)
In addition to being key-note
speaker for the AHEEF Forum, Professor Murray will also be running
two pre-forum workshops for those that are interested
in learning more about strategies for improving teaching
effectiveness.

WORKSHOP 1
THE TEACHER BEHAVIOURS INVENTORY: WHAT
IS IT AND HOW CAN YOU USE IT TO IMPROVE TEACHING?
Date: Tuesday 30 September
Location: Building C Level 3, Caulfield campus
Time: 2pm - 4pm, followed by afternoon tea.
The Teacher Behaviours Inventory (TBI) is a
paper-and-pencil instrument intended to give feedback from
students to teachers as to needed changes in the frequency
of occurrence of specific classroom teaching behaviours.
This workshop will present guidelines for the use of the TBI
in faculty development, will review research done with the
TBI, including research showing the impact of TBI feedback
on teaching improvement, and will provide workshop
participants with ample opportunity to examine and evaluate
the TBI.
Registration fee: $50 |
WORKSHOP 2
DESIGN AND EVALUATION OF TEACHING IMPROVEMENT
PROGRAMS: THREE CASE STUDIES.
Date: Wednesday 1 October
Location - Building C Level 3, Caulfield campus
Time: 2pm - 4pm, followed by afternoon tea.
Although considerable resources have been
invested in the development of programs for the improvement
of college and university teaching in North America, very
little research has been done to determine whether these
programs do in fact lead to improved teaching. This
workshop will provide discussion of measurement and design
issues in evaluating teaching improvement programs, and will
examine three case studies from the University of Western
Ontario in which the implementation of a program for the
improvement of teaching was accompanied by formal research
designed to evaluate the impact of the program
Registration fee: $50 |
