Evaluation of Research

There are a number of tools employed in the evaluation of research at Monash.

INSTITUTIONAL LEVEL

Postgraduate Research Supervision Survey (PRSS)

CHEQ is involved in the design and analysis of data collected from the Postgraduate Research Supervision Survey (PRSS), which is held every 4 years. An analysis of the second Survey is available online.

A third Survey is scheduled for implementation in 2005.

Annual Doctoral Exit Survey

The Annual Doctoral Exit Survey is administered by the Monash Research Graduate School. The 2000 Survey report and survey questionnaire are available online.

NATIONAL LEVEL

Postgraduate Research Experience Questionnaire (PREQ)

Graduates of the University are asked for feedback through the Graduate Destination Survey (GDS), and the Postgraduate Research Experience Questionnaire (PREQ). These surveys are Australia-wide surveys, administered by each tertiary institution to their own graduates, under the national co-ordination of Graduate Careers Australia.

Aspects of the research experience examined in these questionnaires include

  • Supervision
  • The thesis examination process
  • Issues about student goals and expectations
  • Faculty/department ethos and intellectual climate issues
  • Infrastructure issues
  • Skills development issues.
