Self evaluation questions

These questions will help you to analyse your own professional practice. They may relate to teaching just one class, a whole section or even a unit.

Teaching

  • Was I well prepared for the class?

  •  Were the aims of the class made clear?

  • How well structured and organized was the content?

  • How well did I engage and involve the students?

  • Was I encouraging, positive and helpful towards students?

  • Did I convey my own enthusiasm for the topic?

 

Unit design

  • Was clear information made available concerning the nature and administration of the unit?

  • Did the students understand how assignments and the Unit would be marked and graded?

  • Was it made clear how this Unit related to other areas of the course?

  •  How successfully did the Unit incorporate the directions outlined in:

    • the Learning and Teaching Plan?

    • the Monash University Strategic Plan?

 

Professional development activities

  • What skills and knowledge do I need to develop so that I might teach better?

  • How might I go about advancing my professional development?

 

Research

  • Was I actively engaged in research in the area or related areas of the unit taught?

  • Did I develop links between the area being taught and research? (See  Teaching and Research Nexus)

 

Engagement

  • Did I bring external engagement experience to my teaching?

  • Could I use my teaching and research to develop external engagement?

 

Reflection & analysis on student feedback

  • Were there were problems in some areas? What can I do to address these?

  • Is there a need for me to amend the assessment, course work, lectures, laboratory work, etc?

 

University, Faculty, School and Departmental Support

  • What would I need to address some of the problems I faced e.g. more teaching aids, computer facilities, laboratory needs, professional development funds etc.
