Who can sign an agreement ?

1.1 The Vice-Chancellor has general power to sign contracts, agreements and other documents on behalf of the University.
1.2 The Vice-Chancellor has delegated his power to sign contracts, agreements and other documents to the Deputy Vice-Chancellors, the Vice-Presidents and the Deans, with respect to matters for which they have responsibility.
1.3 The delegates referred to in paragraph 1.2 have sub-delegated their powers to sign contracts, agreements and other documents to various persons for whom they have responsibility.
1.4 These sub-delegations are either:
(a) general (i.e. giving the sub-delegate general power to sign contracts etc. within the delegate's or sub-delegate's responsibility); or
(b) specific (i.e. giving the sub-delegate power to sign specific documents or in specific circumstances).  An example of a specific power to sign is the power to sign only agreements for the acquisition of services e.g. standard Contractor Agreements A and B.
1.5 Where a delegate or sub-delegate has authority to sign a contract which involves purchasing, the person signing should also have the appropriate financial delegation to enter into the transaction.

1.6

A list of delegations, sub-delegations and authorities to sign can be found here.

1.7  Where agreements have been approved by the University as University "pro formas" (e.g. the standard Contractor Agreements A and B) there is no need for them to be legally reviewed before signing.  In all other cases, the agreement should be reviewed and approved by a lawyer for the University.
1.8 Some agreements must be formalised under the official seal of the University and counter-signed by the Vice-Chancellor and a Deputy Vice-Chancellor or Vice-President.
