Requesting Legal ServicesIf you would like to discuss a work-related problem with a solicitor or provide us with some background before sending instructions, you should call the Solicitor's Office and make an appointment. Our Administrative Assistants will be able to direct you to the most appropriate (and available) solicitor. Please phone 9902 0117 for assistance in the first instance. Please complete the instruction summary sheet below and E-mail to: soloffice@monash.edu. Note: There is now only one instruction summary sheet for all new matters. Your instructions will be logged as a 'new matter' and you will be advised by email as soon as the matter has been allocated to a solicitor. If you want a solicitor to review an Agreement which has been drawn up by an external organisation, please forward the Agreement to us as soon as possible. E-mail enquiries are welcome. However, there is a natural tendency for a sender to expect an accelerated response when questions or instructions are submitted by e-mail. Please note that e-mail does not secure priority. A question posed in an e-mail might be complex and require some research before answering in which case we would not be able to reply on the same day. If you forward a document such as a draft policy or a contract as an attachment to an email with a request that the document be reviewed, this will be treated as submission of a new matter and registered and allocated in the usual way. In other words, no priority will be given because the document was submitted electronically. Our general approach is to deal with matters in order of their submission or according to OUR assessment of their urgency for example, a matter will be given a higher priority if action is needed to meet an imminent deadline. You are, however, invited to indicate the urgency of the matter when you provided instructions, which will be taken into account in our assessment.
