Monash Memo Editorial Guidelines

Monash Memo is a weekly online newsletter for Monash staff. It is emailed to all staff on Wednesday and is also available on the Monash website at http://www.monash.edu.au/news/memo

Monash Memo is produced by the Media Communications Unit. You can contact Media Communications on media@monash.edu or extension 34840.

Contributions and suggestions

We welcome contributions and will try to include your item if possible, but due to space restrictions please understand that if you submit or suggest a story we cannot guarantee its publication.

Articles

Monash Memo features seven stories each week.  We give priority to stories relating to:

  • the University's core activities of teaching and learning, research, and professional contribution.
  • the University's themes of engagement, innovation and internationalisation.

Tips to prepare a memo story submission

  • Stories should be limited to between 150 and 300 words.
  • Your story should have a newsworthy angle and should be presented in a way that is interesting and relevant to all Monash staff. Think about how your story will have appeal to this audience.
  • The first and second paragraph should cover the main points of the story ie who, what, when, where, why and how.
  • All statements of opinion should be attributed to an appropriate spokesperson.

A photograph (1-2 mb file size) should be included with your article, where possible. The image should be of good quality and reflect the content of the article. Where an image of a relevant staff member is to be included, please ensure the context of the image is professional. A suitable image is as important as the written content and where a suitable image cannot be sourced, the inclusion of the article may be jeopardised.

Email your story to media@monash.edu
