About the challenge
The 2009 10,000 Steps Challenge 'Walk for the soul' will commence on Wednesday 7th October as a virtual walk and will finish on Friday 13th November. Participants are encouraged to form teams of 8 (which includes a team captain) which can consist of Monash staff, family or friends, or students.
In order to achieve 10,000 steps a day, we recommend that each person will need to combine their usual day, with a 30 minute walk (or another form of exercise eg swimming, gym, tennis etc). Forms of exercise other than walking can be converted when entering your daily steps. The number of steps walked per day can be counted using a pedometer.
Each team must allocate a team captain who will be responsible for encouraging their team members to log their daily steps and reach their daily goals. To assist, weekly progress postcards will be sent to all team captains. In addition, to boost enthusiasm, there will be prizes for campuses, teams and individuals. Team progress can be monitored by the team members using the www.10000steps.org.au website.
