Mental Health First Aid training

The purpose of this course is to provide information on how to provide help to someone experiencing a mental health problem before professional help is sought.

The Mental Health First Aid Program was developed in 2001 at the centre for Mental Health Research at the Australian National University.  The program has been well evaluated and found to be effective in improving mental health literacy, reducing stigma and increasing helping behaviours.

First Aid is the help given to an injured person before medical treatment can be obtained.  Mental Health First Aid is the initial help given to someone experiencing a mental health problem before professional help is sought.

All enrolments must be submitted to OH&S no later than 5 working days prior to course commencement.

This may be your last opportunity in 2008 to see why hundreds of Monash staff have befitted from attending the THRIVE program. Register now for the next cycle of THRIVE, starting at Clayton campus on Tuesday, 7th October at 1 pm.. It runs for 8 consecutive weeks (except Cup Day, 4th November).  The 8 X 1 hour sessions provide a practical framework to help you reduce, and prevent, the physical and emotional effects of stress. You will learn strategies to stop worrying, procrastinating and being passive, whilst improving sleep habits, relaxation, problem-solving, decision-making and assertive communication. Those who miss out for this program, can go on a waiting list and be given first refusal when we start again next year. You will need to attend a brief (15 minute) appointment with Lesley Freeman (Manager of THRIVE) prior to registration. There is a $10 registration fee.
