AFL guest speakers and your chance to win a bike!
Men's Health Week lunchtime event

Come along to this informative and entertaining Men's Health Week event with special guest speakers AFL Hall of Fame Legend Peter Hudson and AFL past player and coach David Parkin.

Educating the Monash community on men’s health issues is important because of the impact on relationships, family and quality of life. Providing information on these men’s health problems will help men know when to speak to a doctor, and also help partners to understand these conditions.

The seminar will also feature a speaker from Andrology Australia and cover general health information as well as mental health, and sexual health issues. One in three men have a sexual health problem, and one in six men experience depression.

The seminar is open to male and female Monash staff.  Information stalls will be available after the event.  Register before 10th June to  go in the draw to WIN a mountain bike worth $550.

Date:Tuesday 23 June, 2009, 12pm-1pm

 Participants sought: Dementia research

By 2016 dementia will be the leading cause of morbidity for Australian women. There is currently no known prevention of dementia, however there is an opportunity for you to help research.

About the study: The Women’s Health Program is looking for participants to determine the real role oestrogen loss at menopause has on cognitive function in women. Presently this remains unresolved despite that fact that it is a very important issue.  It has been proposed that the replacement of oestrogen in the early postmenopausal period may reduce the decline in memory in healthy women.

What does the study involve? The research study is a randomised controlled trial in which women will either take Angeliq (an approved oestrogen/progesterone treatment) or an identical placebo for only 6 months and we will assess their cognitive performance using state of the art computer testing and functional MR imaging.

How long? The study will involve 4 visits over a 6 month period to the Women’s Health Program at the Alfred Hospital and 2 visits to the Murdoch Institute in Parkville for the MRI scan.

Interested? If you are interested in being in this study, you may be eligible if you are:
Aged between 45-55 years
Healthy
Post menopausal
Right handed
Not taking any hormone therapy
Able to take oral oestrogen

To register your interest or for further information please contact Corallee Morrow, Women’s Health Program, Monash University, Alfred Hospital, 03 9903 0836 / 03 9903 0827 or email Corallee.Morrow@med.monash.edu.au
