Scholarship categories
Coursework scholarships are offered for study in a Monash University award course, or for study in specific faculties or courses. They can be divided into three broad categories based on how applicants are selected – on academic merit, equity grounds or a combination of both. 1. MeritMerit scholarships are awarded for academic achievement in Australian Year 12 or the International Baccalaureate (IB) in 2009, or equivalent qualification for eligible international students, or for academic performance as a currently enrolled Monash student. Some merit scholarships are available to New Zealand citizens completing the New Zealand National Certificate of Achievement (NCEA) level 3 examinations in 2009. Current Monash students are assessed for scholarships using a weighted average mark (WAM) of all units completed at Monash, unless otherwise specified. 2. EquityEquity refers to fairness and principles of justice aimed to redress inequalities in opportunity experienced by some students. Monash equity-based scholarships recognise that all people have different needs and that some groups experience disadvantages that impact on their educational progress. Equity scholarships are awarded to students who come from one or more of Monash University’s defined equity or personal disadvantage groups: 3. Merit and equityMerit and equity scholarships are awarded to students who have both excellent academic achievements and who have also experienced difficulties during their education on the basis of one or more of Monash University’s defined equity or personal disadvantage groups. |
