Business Information Systems Industry Based Learning Scholarship

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must be:

  • an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or holder of an Australian permanent resident visa or permanent humanitarian visa, and
  • studying Australian Year 12 or IB in 2008*, or
  • a current Monash undergraduate student enrolled in the first year of the Bachelor of Business Information Systems, and
  • enrolled or intending to enrol as a full-time student in the Bachelor of Business Information Systems or Bachelor of Information Technology and Systems at a Monash campus in Australia.

* Students who have taken a ‘GAP year’ after year 12 and have obtained the required ENTER score in 2008 for admittance into the Bachelor of Business Information Systems degree, are also eligible to apply.

Selection criteria

The Industry-Based Learning (IBL) scholarship is awarded based on an interview conducted by the industry partners of the IBL program. The selection criteria include good communication skills, maturity, enthusiasm, initiative, leadership qualities, extra-curricular interests and participation, academic performance, exposure to paid work and career interests.

Value

  • New students: $6,000 per annum in the first year of the degree and $15,000 per annum in the second and third years of the degree.
  • Continuing Monash students: $15,000 per annum in the second and third years of the degree.

Number available in 2009

In 2009, there will be up to 40 IBL scholarships awarded. About half of these will be offered to Year 12 students in December 2008 prior to the VTAC Change of Preference period. The remainder of the scholarships will be released to current Monash students towards the end of their first year of study in the degree.

Retention

Recipients must maintain full-time enrolment and satisfactory academic performance as determined by the faculty.

Offers

Approximately 50 applicants will be invited to an interview on 18 December 2008. Interview results will be available on 19 December 2008, so that the first group of students will be offered an IBL scholarship prior to admission to the degree. Students interested in this first release of IBL scholarships will need to list the Bachelor of Business Information Systems at Monash University as a preference in their VTAC application.

Deferability

This scholarship cannot be deferred.

Applications

Applications for Year 12 students must be submitted directly to the Clayton School of Information Technology. The Faculty of Information Technology may send out an invitation to current Monash students who meet the initial selection criteria, inviting them to apply for the program. Final selection will be determined by interview with industry partners.
