Harvey Barnett Scholarship
The Harvey Barnett Scholarship is in memory of Dr Harvey Barnett. This scholarship was introduced in to assist final year students studying the Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery to undertake an elective in remote/indigenous regions in Australian, New Guinea and Asia Pacific Areas.
Eligibility
To be eligible, you must be:
- an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or holder of an Australian permanent resident visa or permanent humanitarian visa, or
- an international student, and
- a full-time undergraduate student enrolled in the Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery at a Monash campus in Australia, and
- undertaking an elective placement in a remote or indigenous region of Australia, New Guinea, West Pacific Islands, Philippines or Indonesia in 2009.
Selection criteria
Selection of candidates will be on the basis of:
- academic achievement
- the merit of the proposed work program in the remote or indigenous community (as determined by the selection committee)
- the quality of the written submission, in which applicants will be expected to demonstrate how the financial assistance of the bursary would assist with the budgeted cost of undertaking the elective.

Retention
Recipients must maintain full-time enrolment.
Deferability
This scholarship cannot be deferred.

Applications open 10:00am (AEST) Friday 1 August 2008 and close 5:00pm (AEST) Friday 31 October 2008.
