Monash Rotary District 9820 Indigenous Scholarship

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must be:

  • Indigenous Australian, and
  • a commencing student intending to enrol in an undergraduate* or postgraduate (coursework) degree at the Gippsland, Peninsula or Berwick Campuses at Monash University, and
  • enrolled in at least 12 credit points a semester.

*This includes the Diploma of Tertiary Studies and associate degrees, and the graduate entry Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery (offered at Gippsland campus)

Selection criteria

Awarded to students based on need. Further consideration will be given to students based on ATAR score or equivalent.

Students must indicate in their application their willingness to engage with a local Rotary Club. Engagement could include guest speaking at a meeting or attendance at a regional event.

Preference will be given to students enrolling in undergraduate medicine, nursing, health sciences, and community welfare and counselling degrees. In the absence of eligible applicants for these courses, the committee may consider students from education and then any other undergraduate course. Preference will also be given to residents within the Rotary District 9820 catchment (Mornington Peninsula, South East Melbourne and Gippsland); however consideration may be given to eligible students from other areas.

Value and number available

$6000 per 48 credit points of study for the minimum number of credit points required to complete the degree up to a maximum of four years. The number available is variable depending on funding.

Retention

Recipients must maintain a minimum of half the full-time study load and a minimum of a pass weighted average mark (50 per cent) and, as agreed, maintain contact with a Rotary Club within District 9820.

Deferability

This scholarship can be deferred under exceptional circumstances only.
