Dr Paul Baker Scholarship

The Dr Paul Baker Scholarship was established in 1996 by Dr John Serry in memory of Dr Paul Baker who was in general practice in Yarram, Victoria for 30 years. The scholarship was introduced in 1996 to assist rural students studying the Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery with relocation and living away from home expenses.

 

Eligibility

To be eligible, you must be:

  • an Australian or New Zealand citizen, or holder of an Australian permanent resident visa or permanent humanitarian visa, and
  • a commencing or continuing full-time undergraduate student, and
  • enrolled or intending to enrol in the Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery* at a Monash campus in Australia, and
  • able to demonstrate financial disadvantage, and
  • relocated from a regional and remote area.

*This includes the graduate entry Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery offered at Gippsland campus.

Selection criteria

Awarded to the highest achieving eligible students based on a combination of academic achievement and demonstration of financial disadvantage and rural relocation. Year 12 students will be selected based on ATAR score or equivalent and continuing students will be selected based on weighted average mark in the Bachelor of Medicine/Bachelor of Surgery.

Value and number available

Variable depending on funding. One scholarship is available.

Retention

Recipients must maintain full-time enrolment.

Deferability

This scholarship cannot be deferred.
