Lucy Bourke

Faculty of Business and Economics, Bachelor of Psychology and Management/Marketing
Lucy chose Monash because of its reputation and, although she did not know what she wanted to study, her course is ‘broad and will open up to different avenues in the future.’ She was relieved to be offered the scholarship because it gave her more confidence about coming to uni. ‘The scholarship means I won’t have a debt and will relieve financial strain on myself and my parents.’

Commonwealth Accommodation Scholarship
Faculty of Arts, Bachelor of Communication
Amelia has moved from Traralgon to study at Monash’s Berwick campus. ‘Monash is a well known and respected University. The bursary allows me to study Public Relations as this major isn’t available at institutions close to home and I want to pursue a career in this field.’ Amelia is living in the Halls of Residence at Berwick and says ‘it is fun- I’ve made so many friends and the course is really interesting.’

Geoffrey always knew he wanted to do Engineering and was attracted by the variety of programs offered by Monash. ‘The Engineering Faculty at Monash has a very good choice of double degrees. The majority of my preferences were for Monash University. I chose Mechatronics because it is an area of potential growth and is a lot more exciting and different.’

‘I burst into tears when I found out I was awarded a scholarship- I couldn’t think straight. I chose Monash because the Arts Faculty offered all the subjects I was interested in.’ Whilst her experience of university has been overwhelming so far, Ruby is settling in and has joined plenty of clubs at Monash such as the Philosophy club, the Japanese club and the Art club.

Moving from Rockhampton to Melbourne has been a cultural shock for Tessa who was amazed and excited to be given the opportunity to study Medicine at Monash. ‘I love it - everyone is so nice, they are all so talented and have so much life experiences. I was going to defer this year but the scholarship has enabled me to come straight to uni.’ Tessa is looking forward to becoming a doctor and hopes to spend time working overseas and in rural Australia. ‘I want to try and make a difference in whatever small way I can.’

‘I attended Monash open day twice – in year 11 and year 12 and was impressed by the Engineering faculty.’ By combining his interests in engineering and commerce, Aaron is hoping to work in a management role and perhaps follow in his fathers footsteps to work internationally.

Faculty of Arts, Bachelor of Arts (Dean’s Scholars Program)
‘This scholarship means I won’t have to work as much to support myself at uni,’ says Sean who deferred his first year at uni to travel overseas. Sean is enrolled in the Faculty of Arts Deans Scholars program and would like to be a writer of fiction or short stories after he completes his degree. As part of his course he hopes to participate in an exchange program through Monash Abroad to study in Italy.

Zac was very excited and overwhelmed to receive his scholarships. ‘The scholarship will help me pay off my CSP debt and has allowed me to move closer to University.’ The former Lilydale High student is enjoying the experience of university life where he has met lots of new people and joined a variety of clubs and sporting groups.

Amber has been in Australia for three years and has found Monash very different from being at school. The scholarship is motivation for her to maintain her grades at university and pursue her career in Law. ‘I have learnt to be very independent since living in Australia and think I can do anything now as long as I believe in myself.’

‘Monash is renowned for its Medicine degree in Australia and overseas.’ Josh is thrilled to be studying at Monash which will enable him to complete his degree in 5 years. He hopes to travel and work overseas after he finishes his course.

The opportunity to return to study was unexpected for Kylie who despite being from Victoria was living in Darwin when she received her scholarship and course offers for Monash. ‘The initial 6 months was very challenging, however adapting to my new surroundings became easier. The friends I’ve made, camping trips I’ve journeyed on, and the vast amount of knowledge and skills gained over the last 3 years has been an incredibly satisfying process.’ |
