Guidelines for Current and Prospective Students - Alternative Arrangements for Assessment (AAA) - Disability Liaison Unit (DLU)

Alternative Arrangements for Assessment (AAA) ensure that students with disabilities have equal opportunity in all types of assessments. The term refers to any variation in the structure, format, duration, or venue of an examination or assignment. This includes extra time, separate or private examination venues, use of technology, furniture, and use of scribes, etc. AAAs are most often applied to examinations.

Procedures

When a student makes contact with the Disability Liaison Unit (DLU) a thorough assessment of the student's needs is undertaken including the requirements for AAAs. The details of the AAAs are then documented on the student's file. The DLU will request current supporting documentation prior to any support being implemented or AAAs finalised.

Prior to the examination period at the end of each semester, students will receive a letter from the Examinations Unit confirming their AAAs.  It is the student's responsibility to contact Examinations Unit if they do not receive this letter.  Students should take their letter along to each of their examiniations and show it to the exam supervisor.

If students have not discussed AAAs or wish to review AAAs with the DLU it is their responsibility to contact us at least 4 weeks prior to commencement of examinations.

Class tests/departments tests/special exams

Where a student has a class test or any type of test or examination, which is held within the Faculty, and they require AAAs where possible the DLU must be advised at least one month prior to the scheduled date of the exam. The DLU will need to complete a separate form and forward the request for AAAs directly to the lecturer.
