Equal Opportunity On Line Training Module 4: Disability Law & AccessImportance of Disability AwarenessEducation is an empowering process. On an individual level it is a process that creates access to opportunities. It is part of our social and political responsibility to ensure that people with a disability are fairly represented amongst those given this opportunity. Providing educational opportunities for people with a disability ensures that we do not indirectly deny a substantial proportion of our population access to full participation in our community, ranging from the benefits of employment to active participation in the governing of our society. At Monash University we aim to provide, as far as possible, academic programs and a work place that takes into account and caters for the needs of people with disabilities. The Disability Discrimination Act (1992) (Commonwealth) specifically aims to give effect to the Covenant on Civil and Political Rights and to the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights.
