Overview

Assertiveness is the skill of being able to communicate your opinions, thoughts and needs in an honest and direct manner. It involves valuing yourself whilst acknowledging the needs and rights of others. This course is designed to help you to understand the barriers to effective interactions and to learn strategies to enable you to choose your response to people or situations.

Intended Outcomes

  • Understanding of the difference between assertion, aggression and passivity
  • Capacity to apply a model for uncovering your own hidden agendas
  • Exploration of the myths which interfere with assertive behaviour
  • Knowledge of your rights
  • Development of strategies for healthy assertion

  • What are the differences - assertion, aggression, passivity?
  • Myths that block assertive behaviour
  • Recognising hidden agendas
  • What are your rights?
  • Strategies for being positively assertive
