Suitable for staff who have limited experience in the area or who wish to refresh their skills.

Overview

A large number of meetings are held at Monash every day. Committee secretaries can help to make sure that meetings are time efficient and productive by planning ahead and using appropriate agenda techniques.

This workshop is centered around a case study where you will get hands-on practice constructing a formal agenda, planning for the meeting and lots of opportunities to discuss problems with colleagues and share tips and ideas.

Intended Outcomes

After the workshop you will:

  • Know how to prepare a formal meeting agenda.
  • Know what essential information to include.
  • Understand how meeting agendas are used.
  • Be confident in communicating with the chair and other meeting attendees.
  • Know how to avoid some common meeting mishaps.

  • Meeting planning timeline.
  • What to include in a formal meeting agenda.
  • Sourcing agenda items.
  • Taking attendance.
  • Managing presenters and invited people.
  • Assisting the chair.
  • Ongoing responsibilities of a committee secretary
