Workforce Management Policy

Policy Title

Workforce Management

Purpose

Monash University strives to:

  • regulate the engagement of its staff and their responsibilities and entitlements where these are not already prescribed by law;
  • have systems in place to enable accurate workforce reporting including the monitoring and management of staff profiles;
  • be inclusive and enable access and equity for staff who have a disability;
  • have workplace flexibility including options to assist staff to balance their work, life and family responsibilities; and
  • facilitate the engagement of national and international community scholars.

Supporting Research and Analysis

The majority of the University’s management of staff is prescribed by law, including contracts of employment and other binding workplace agreements and relevant legislation. However, where the management of staff is not prescribed by law, it is desirable to apply a global policy which provides a framework for decision-making and encourages consistency in staff management across the University, both within Australia and internationally. This is consistent with best practice and the University’s strategic objectives as an international university. This policy also includes facilitating the engagement of national and international community scholars as Visiting Academics.

This policy complies with the various legislative and employment frameworks utilised by Australia, Malaysia and South Africa and is designed to enable implementation across all of the University’s campuses, both within Australia and internationally.

The Monash University Ethics Statement underpins this policy and does not exclude or replace this policy or its related procedures. In the unlikely event of any inconsistency between the Ethics Statement and this policy, the explicit requirements of this policy shall prevail to the extent of any inconsistency

Scope

This policy applies to:

  • all campuses; and
  • all staff.
